The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is considering whether to make emergency contraception (ECP) available through pharmacies (without a prescription). It's not technically over the counter, as the woman would still need to consult the pharmacist for dosing and side effect info. (This also means that some stores, like Wal-Mart) could choose not to carry ECP in their pharmacies.
This already occurs in Washington, and in many other states. The ruling would formalize the availability of prepackaged ECP kits. Any woman can "make" her own ECP with the right combo of her existing contraceptive pills, but it's better to have "guesswork" removed.
ECP is not an abortifacient (like RU-486).
Given the current administration, the FDA may be less than willing to do this. If you feel so moved, follow the link below to the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association.
-----
Please take action and send a letter to encourage the Federal Drug Administration to approve emergency contraception (Plan B) for over-the-counter purchase. To make it simple, go to www.nfprha.org. On the right hand side directly above "Take Action" click on the paragraph that talks about the FDA. This will take you to a sample letter and an easy way to send it.

 You are Spider Jerusalem.
Spider is THE journalist of the future. He smokes, he does drugs, and he kicks ass. The drugs are going to eventually kill him but not before he gets his way. And his way is the demise of the failed American dream. Although full of hate, he cares about his city. All he wants to bring the world is truth. Spider Jerusalem, conscience of the City. Frightening thought, but he's the only one we've got.

Oh, thank god we're cracking down on these horrible criminals.
Such the dangerous white-bread suburb. I know! Let's just give out large fines for scoffing at a needless and pointless new regulation!!! After all, first these kids cross where there's not a crossing and light, next, it's opium dens...dens of vice and corruption. Wearing green whiskers, and voting Democratic. God save the Flower Mound children. At least they're finally seeing how the real winds blow. Ah, hell...maybe it's best this way...they've gotta butt heads with authority sooner or later, I guess.
Still...$200 for jaywalking??

Thought on gun control...they're going at it all wrong. Regulate and impose waiting times on ammo. Sure, have any kind of gun you want...but if you want bullets...well, that may take a couple days.
Hmm, I'll have to think on that one to see if my libertarian leanings allow that sort of thing. Still, instead of quibbling whether the right to bear arms really means the right to bear arms, it makes more sense to me that there's nothing that says anything about the right to stockpile ammunition.
Why doesn't anyone take this seemingly obvious approach? Hell, even as a "just in case" measure, it's not like there are rabid Bullet Lobbyists frothing in the bullpen, waiting for a chance to suck up and manipulate. What a world, what a world.
Seems so simple, but no...everyone continues to push in the same direction as before. Well, that path leads to nothing but mud and fuckup, my friends...mud and fuckup.

Ok, swing dance didn't work out so well...turns out it runs from 5:30 to 6:45, and not starting at 6:30 as I'd been led to believe. Worse, we peeked in, and it looked like a jr. high dance, Jenna and I shuddered at the sight of a 20-something couple, awkwardly couple dancing to Stayin' Alive.
We turned and walked away...perhaps another venue for dancing, another time. Of course, I'll still maybe go for some bands at the American Legion Hall, but the Tuesday thing seems to be out. Alas. So, went for a walk around Lake Ella, sat down on a bench for a while, just enjoying the nice cool "about to storm" weather and whatnot...gave some money to a homeless guy "ok, thanks Jenna, I'll get the next one", then the bottom dropped out of the sky.
Florida rainstorms give no foreplay/anticipation like they did in Texas. Back home, they would announce the coming storm the day before, updates throughout the day, building up excitement...then, as the storm approached, you'd feel the wind kick up, the pressure drop and then the storm came in. "East wind bwow! West wind bwow! Wightning stwike!!!".
Florida storms are like being humped by a dog. Just minding your own business, thinking "ugh, why is it so freaking humid?" and then, suddenly, you're all wet.
So, then good Italian food was consumed (still haven't found a fave restaurant here, damn I miss good mexican food...hell, I even miss Taco Cabana), and at least the city had fixed the power when we got to Casa Primer. Turns out that a giant tree had fallen and took out a telephone pole/transformer. Well, that was a half block away, so it explains the crunching sound when the lights went out.

Well, going to once again attempt to begin the process of learning how to swing dance. Jenna didn't talk me into it, just gave me that little bit of peer pressure I needed to get over the hump. Why am I so lazy that I need other people to talk me into doing things that I actually already want to do?

Disposable cameras...fairly handy...take your pictures, take the camera in and get your pics on photo paper or CD.
So, since that capabilty already exists in all disposable camers...and all film in general...what's the point of this?
800 speed film...is that the difference? I could maybe accept that...otherwise...WHY?!?!?!
:: primergray 5:36 PM [+] ::

Yikes...
Went home for lunch...and then there was this loud booming/crunchy sound at the same time everything electric shut down. No power. Soon afterwards, firetruck sirens...so, I went to Taco Bell.
Trouble in Tallahassee...probably only with just one big transformer, though. I've been told I'm on the same grid as the hospital. Ah, these things happen when you're like me and insist on living in older neighborhoods.

AOL 9.0...with Pop Up blocking...yeah, not like all the popups don't come up inside the AOL browser, where they can't be touched by the freeware that works on Exploder and Netscrape. Congrats, guys...you allow people to block some of the crap they wouldn't have if they weren't using you. I'm sure there's no reporting of what ads you block and what ads you don't, either.
Why to I care? I've been on mindspring for years...it's just that AOL irritates on some visceral level...a primal thing.
That's probably why I've collected so many CDs to turn into a tapestry or some sort of art project. See, it will fulfill all the aspects of great art...it will be colorful, make a statement on corporate excess...and it's shiny. Something for everyone.

Jessica Simpson
where has your love gone
it’s not in your music, no.
You need a vacation
to wake up the cavemen
and take them to Mexico.
Jessica, Jessica Simpson
you’ve got it all wrong
your fraudulent smile
the way that you faked it
the day that you die.
My body’s in shambles
encrusted with brambles
that sharpen the air I breathe.
What’s on the menu?
Jessica can you
take down my order please?
Jessica, Jessica Simpson
you’ve got it all wrong
your fraudulent smile
the way that you faked it
the day that you die.
Tomorrow gets closer
a purple bulldozer
is calling you on the phone.
Your love live precedes you
your son-in-law feeds you
injections of cortisone.
Jessica, Jessica Simpson
you’ve got it all wrong
your fraudulent smile
the way that you faked it
the day that you die.
Jessica Simpson
where has your love gone?
It’s not in your music
So where has it gone then?
Jessica?

I'll admit it...I'm not ashamed to confess. I had no interest in her until she and her new hubby submitted to the reality show treatment on MTV...and now I think that turning the show into a drinking game is a damn fine idea. But, it needs some rules. Y'all have any ideas? A drink per glare? Finish the drink anytime they seem completely baffled by a mundane household task? Ah, Ain't love grand?.

Well, it's been awhile, and I got all distracted in the real world, without following up on the death of a cannibal. I knew there was a connection there...my family's doctor when I was in jr high and high school, and my mom's doctor when my youngest sister was er...in process. He'd mention now and then that he was a doctor in Uganda until one day he got an invitation to Idi's house...people that got invitations to the house never were seen again. So, he and his family fled that night...later ending up in small town Texas. Sure, it's a boring little town, but compared to where he was before, I figure it's a paradise.
And considering his history, it was sure nice of our Saudi friends to let Idi Amin live out his final days in comfort....
Well, I was raised nicer than this, but I gotta say I ain't gonna miss him.

Barely There update...now there's a commercial with Betsy Ross...and actually, it's kinda funny. "I didn't get invited to those...I was home, upholstering a chair..."
Well, maybe the evening's beer changed my perspective, but I still think the Susan B. Anthony commercial is stupid. But, I've been traumatized by Susans...a cumulative thing over the years...

Gotta love a headline like this. If you're like me, the first question in your mind is "but how?"

Ok, just saw a commercial on tv...thin blonde in underwear...monologue something like "hey, I'm like Susan B. Anthony, and it's your right to have panties and bras that don't ride up or chafe". Then, something about complaining about no longer being on the Silver Dollar...although they stopped being called that when they downsized 'em to the "just smaller than a quarter" size back in '79. Man, I wish I could find a link or had the patience to tape and transcribe that commercial...I tell ya, it's more than enough to deeply annoy even this white male, liberal redneck, that's for sure.
Ok, so Barely There has decided to dumb down this leader in the women's suffrage movement, the abolitionist movement, and other progressive campaigns.
Sheesh, sometimes the ad folks just don't understand the difference between irony and soulless pandering.
So, apparently she's upset about the gold-colored Sacagawea dollar coins, but not too much, her panties are far to comfortable for that...and after all, if she was there, she'd be Barely There...
I've said it a hundred times at least, but here's another.... Some day, and with the grace of some god with a sense of humor...heads will roll.

Whew, long couple of weeks there with some sort of allergy, turned into sinus ick, turned into bronchitis, turned into coughing so hard I nearly cracked a rib...turned into a trip to Doc in the Box for something from the penicillin family to kill the green thing inside me, and some painkillers. Felt better instantly, and now that the Tylenol 3 generic haze has begun to fade, I'm finally starting to feel like myself. So, on with the show....

Oh my God...I'm With Busey is brilliant. Absolutely brilliant...Busey is insane, of course, but he knows he's insane, and therefore acts more insane as a cover. He's mentoring this odd and meek 20-something about life and what it means to be a man. The show just works...Busey gets a little Great Santini on Adam now and then, but there's actually a great chemistry between them. It's funny as hell, but I also find the show oddly touching at times. Y'all should check it out.
It's restoring my faith in mankind...for a little while, anyway
*sigh* dammit.

I fear that life and work forced me to be late jumping on the bandwagon for the Bill O'Reilly Incident (why, there's nothing to stop people from just saying any old thing on the internet, and some of it might be about me!), where he started acting a bit too much like Andy Griffith's character in Face in the Crowd , just before his downfall.
Oh! And Orrin Hatch wants to destroy our computers because we have mp3s! Damn, these both deserve some quality but time sensitive rants. Well, I'll flesh out that Man of the People idea more later. And Hatch? He's on a roll...I'll get him on a current thing, there's plenty of second chances when he's in the spotlight.

Ok...so perhaps "soon" is a relative term...new year, same state, newness of Florida wearing off, but I still miss Texas.
Been a busy month, making new friends, seeing some sights, made the Disney pilgrimmage. Hmm, it was ok...I had a good time but not quite as much as my friends who'd been there as a child. I dunno...maybe I'm looking at it backwards, but Disney made me miss Six Flags...that's the original one where the "six flags" concept makes historical sense. Now, this should be interesting as I figure out what direction to take with this blog thing...an introvert on the web with a psuedo-vanity medium. Then again, it's just writing...not sure how much me I want to reveal on the course of this development...but the point is just to get started, right? So, greetings, y'all... I'll be back soon with tangental rants and then we'll see if this puppy will let me post links. Yes, I mean soon in the actual sense of the word, not the blog of lies like last time.
Vaya con queso..
